One of the first things Miss Li taught in class was Li -Chi- I. Li is form, physical strength etc, Chi is breath and I is intention. Chi is the vehicle that links the physical to the mental. In Nei Jia these three are cultivated in that order. Once this sequence is fully developed and matured, we have come full circle and the sequence becomes meaningless: we simply 'are'. What does this hierarchy imply? When we learn an Internal Art the first thing we must develop is generalphysical ability. This is because we live in a substantial world. We next must develop specific physical ability. That is physical ability specific for Nei Jia. Once this specific physical ability has blossomed we can then develop the physical skills that Nei Jia requires. Only then are we then able to extend our skill set into the psycho-emotional realm.
