It seems that the world defines a person by what qualifications they have; what piece of paper you have by your name. People, however, do not really work like this. You don't undertake an endeavour for the title but rather you do it for yourself. You do it to test and prove something to yourself. The certificate is something that just comes along with the job. The School currently runs an Instructor Programme to qualify people to teach Tai Chi within the umbrella of School. Does this piece of paper determine you as a person. No of course not. Does the qualification prove that the forms you teach are genuine? No, of course not, as enough signature elements have been placed within the Tai Chi form by myself, Rose Li and the rest of our martial arts ancestors; these signature elements define the author and origin of the form being taught. The Instructor Programme Certificate is a worthless piece of paper. The Certificate is given for one reason and one reason alone. When I was formally adopted into the Jia by Rose Li, I was given physical evidence of the fact. There are enough people, ex-students and others, supposedly teaching 'Rose Li' Tai Chi. The Certificate is for these people. It proclaims that the holders of the Instructor Certificate are a cherished part of our Jia. It draws a line in the sand. It tells the world that as far as we are concerned we will be buried upside-down.
