The School is based at Pineapple Studios in London's Covent Garden. It has been responsible for providing a wide range of martial arts tuition to non-corporate and corporate clients. Clients have included the BBC, the Royal Shakespeare Company, Yahoo! and a number of UK governmental agencies. The School has also been featured in the Guardian Weekend and Zest magazines.
School tuition is 'traditional'. This means that classes are small and excellence in teaching is stressed. The system is distinctive as it is taught by learning and practicing martial art principles. Principles are universal. Principles underlie technique, therefore once you understand the principle, the entire universe of martial arts resides in any single technique.
Within the School you learn by doing rather than rote copying your instructor. As a beginner, you learn in a relaxed, practical way, so this means that you can rapidly internalise what you're practicing. You're quickly able to adapt to your own strengths and weaknesses and have a continuous sense of progress.
Learning in this way is very much like a child learning a language - once you have a basic syntax and common vocabulary, you can not only engage with your instructor but also with a world that would otherwise not be accessible. Being taught by this method means that you'll never lose what you've learnt. This process is not merely an introduction to the School's methods but it also encapsulates the whole essence of the School's teaching ethos. Within our School, martial arts are taught as a 'system'. The three Arts make the whole system complete. Crudely, Ba Gua teaches you how to optimise your movement - the how you go from one form picture to another - and secondly, how to settle the mind. Similarly, Xing Yi emphasises how to hit from a minimal distance, very fast and hard; it provides the practitioner with a technical 'bullet point list' to enable you to perform Dian Xue. Tai Chi provides the superstructure that the other two Arts slot into. Tai Chi, therefore is both the foundation and the basis of all Nei Jia.
